Marlene Mungunda

Hon. Marlene Mungunda was born on 11 September 1954 at Mariental in the Hardap region. She is a teacher by profession and prior to independence has been known as a community activist in her region. In 2000 Marlene Mungunda was appointed Deputy Minister in the new Minister of Women Affairs and Child Welfare. In 2004 she became the Minister of Labour, and in 2005, President Hifikepunye Pohamba gave her the Gender Equality and Child Welfare portfolio.

She has a Teaching Diploma from Khomasdal Teacher’s College (1980) and completed a Diplomatic Training course, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991.
