My beautiful Namibia: About us

We are Namibia fanatics! The cherry on the cake? I was born in a town known as Tsumeb, 80 kilometers from the well known Etosha National Park.

We are keen travellers. Nothing beat travelling throughout this beautiful country and experience the landscape changing from the north to the east, west and south of the country.

The views are just breathtaking. It is every photographer’s dream. I can confidently say that the Namibia photos are some of the best in the world, judging from our amateur photos. Imagine what you can do as a professional photographer!

Every trip will take us double the time to reach our destination because we just have to admire the tourist attractions along the way. I will point these interesting points out to you on this website.

Before I met and tamed my husband, he was a bachelor on wheels (get the picture)? Well, I did not quite tame him because he could just not let go of his bad travelling habits.

As the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, join them! Now I am totally hooked! I will travel at every opportunity I get. If there is one lesson I learned from our adventures is that travelling broadens your mindset and you start thinking outside the box.

Now I totally agree with Mark Twain’s words that:

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness”

Travelling is a hobby; we are both in the medical field. Between the two of us, we hold four diplomas, two masters’ degrees and a PhD on the way from universities in Namibia, Zambia, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

This website was created out of passion to convey the information we have picked up to fellow travellers.

We are known by our friends and family as Mr. Ben and Kitho, our full names being Ben Chinkoti and Mwalimushi Kamati-Chinkoti.

Mwalimushi was supposed to be my second name. I don’t know where our parents got this habit of giving us what is called Christian names. You wonder what is Christ like about a name like Jacobine or Clementine?

Well my Christian name was Kristofina on my birth certificate. As I progressed through school, it gradually became Christofine on my school reports until it graduated into Christophine on my university certificates.

At least there is a Christ in my name, so Christianity is justified in this case.

I was always angry with my parents for not giving me a beautiful name such as Charlotte, Sharon or even Rose. I hated my second name, Mwalimushi with a passion. I just could not stand this long name that sounded like a child learning to speak.

As I matured and came to discover who I am. I fell more and more in love with my name. The meaning of my name is uniquely what my father felt when I was born.

Although the meaning of the name has some level of arrogance in it, (from my father’s side that is) I do love this name now. It will be a long time before you get me putting Christophine or Kristofina on any document. I can’t find the exact words to translate the meaning of the name to you. But it’s something between: “So, what do you have to say?” and “Put that in your pipe and smoke that!”

If you have beautiful Namibia stories that you want to share with the rest of us, put it in my story. There is no limit to the number of stories. Remember this is Namibia and knowledge about this piece of paradise was passed on from the elders to the youth through story telling around the fire.

Otherwise, happy travelling!

Mwalimushi Kamati-Chinkoti
