Namibia Cheetah
The Namibia cheetah is only superficially similar to the leopard. While it is slightly higher at the shoulder, the cheetah is a much more slender animal with a long thin neck and small head and its spots are small, solid and single in comparison to the rosettes of the leopard. The cheetah also has a distinctive tear line down each cheek.
The cheetah is the fastest animal on earth and has been timed at 112km/hour within the space of a single stride. A unique combination of adaptions enables it to withstand the enormous stresses placed on its body to reach such extraordinary speeds.
Cheetah are second only to wild dog as successful hunters and groups of males can bring down prey as large as zebra or wildebeest.
All cheetah are genetically similar, rendering them vulnerable to diseases. Added to this, their specific habitat requirements threaten the long term survival of the species.
