The Namibia climate is, typical of a semi desert country, dry.
Only four of the many Namibian rivers are perennial (with permanent water). These are the Orange, Kunene, Okavango and Zambezi rivers. All the rivers inside the borders of Namibia are non-perennial and only flow after sufficient rain has fallen.
Namibia is a hot, dry country. There are no perennial rivers in the country itself, only the boundary rivers that are the Kunene, Okavango, Zambezi and Orange have permanent water.
Of Namibia’s surface area, 13,8 percent is under state controlled parks and recreational areas. The Etosha National Park, the Namib Naukluft Park and the Skeleton Coast Park togther account for more than 80% of this area.

Due to the wide diversity of habitats, Namibia regularly hosts up to 660 bird species. Namibia lies in most of the south western arid zone, and 170 endemic and near endemic bird species of southern Africa, 104 species occur in this zone. The Caprivi and Kavango regions host a number of truly easy to see Okavango Swamp specials and other species, which can otherwise only be seen more difficult circumstances in Namibia’s neighbouring countries. This, together with its politically stability and excellent road and tourism infrastructure makes Namibia the best birding destination in southern Africa.

Take care not to park in dry riverbeds or move around in it during rainy seasons. This can be dangerous as most often rivers would unexpectedly start to flow from heavy rains that occurred elsewhere.
