Namibia National Anthem

Namibia National Anthem

Namibia
Land of the Brave
Namibia land of the brave
Freedom fight we have won

Glory to their bravery
Whose blood waters our freedom
We give our love and loyalty
Together in unity

Contrasting beautiful Namibia
Namibia our country
Beloved land of savannahs
Hold high the banner of liberty

CHORUS:

Namibia our Country
Namibia Motherland
We love thee!

Axali Doeseb

After the attainment of the Namibian independence in 1990, a competition was held for a new national anthem.

The winning song written and composed by Axali Doeseb (the director of the Kalahari traditional music group at the time), called Namibia, Land of the Brave. It was performed for the first time at the first anniversary of independence and adopted in the same year, 1991.

It describes the will of the Namibian people to survive amid hardship and suffering and, most importantly, their love for their country and their nation.

Axali Doeseb was born in 1954, after winning the anthem competition, he went on to receive a music diploma in Herford Germany and a Bachelor’s Degree in musicology from the University of Marlborough in the United Kingdom. This is one of the best songs ever written by a son/daughter of Namibia.
