Newspapers from Namibia

Newspapers from Namibia ranges from your traditional papers to those with journalists who shoot from the hip. The freedom of the press is guaranteed by the constitution In spite of its small population, the country has a varied and lively press, with several commercial papers and magazines. Topics ranges from current events, sports, business, travel, culture entertainment and classifieds sections for local jobs, career, obituaries, real estate, rentals, cars and other classified ads.

Some of the new print media do not survive past its first to second issues. Below are those that stood the test of time.

The New Era is a wholly-owned publishing house of the Government - daily English paper (Newspaper for a New Namibia)
The Namibian a popular independent English daily, (Still Telling It Like It Is.)
Allgemeine Zeitung is a German daily that covers general news
Rebublikein is an Afrikaans daily and is most popular for its advertorial content
The Namib Times appears twice a week
The Economist is a business oriented paper that comes out once a week (The Custodian of Business Inteligence)
Windhoek Observer – Fridays
and Informante a weekly that prides itself in exposing stories that traditional newspapers may not pursue. As they put it: you conceal, we reveal!

Namibia Magazines

Gems Magazine Is more popular amongst the female. It regularly organise women retreats around the country that are attended mostly by business women and female middle/ senior managers in private and government organisations.
Insight Magazine covers mostly current affairs, business and political issues
