Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila

Honourable Saara Kuugongwela-Amadhila was born on 12 October 1967 at Otamanzi in Okahao, Omusati Region. She left for exile in 1980 and completed her secondary schooling in Sierra Leone. After independence she gained a BSC in Economics at Lincoln University in the United States of America.
Saara Kuugongwela-Amadhila was appointed as Director General of the National Planning Commission in 1995 at a tender age of 27. Within a few years she was appointed the Minister of Finance.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila announced Namibia’s first budget surplus in 2006/2007, a feat she repeated in 2007/2008. She is also the Vice Chairperson and an Eminent Board Member of Pan Afrikan Centre of Namibia (Pacon), a member of the Swapo Party Central Committee.
